Bridge of Lions and Ripley's Museum

We like to walk.  It is good for the heart and soul.  This marina does not have courtesy cars, but it is difficult to park anywhere in downtown old St. Augustine anyway.  The trip yesterday took us over the Bridge of Lions.  We saw people in cars, bikes and walking over the bridge everyday.  We came through the bridge when arriving here.  It crosses the Matanza River, part of the Intracoastal Waterway.  It was completed in 1927 and is a bascule bridge.  This means it opens with part of each side going up for water traffic to pass.  Two marble lions are on the St. Augustine side of the bridge.

So across the bridge we went.  It was early enough so the humidity had not yet set in.  The view was very nice.  On the other side is Anastasia Island.  Directly across for our marina is another.

H

Hmmm.  Looks familiar.  Cement docks and boats.  LOL.  The lighthouse was still four miles away and it was getting hot already.  We decided to walk straight a head.  There were a lot of motels and salons on this road.  We were thinking there must be a breakfast place.  So we walked....and walked...and walked.  Nope, nothing.  We did see this 1974 convertible bug for sale.  I wonder if the fuzzy dice are included.

No Patti, we do not need a car!!
There was a flower or two.

We gave up and turned around.  On the way back a catamaran had called for the bridge to open.

So open it did.

After breakfast and feeling more refreshed we went to the Ripley's Believe it or not Museum.  I loved this building.  It is so wide my little point and shoot could not get it all in.

You could take photos in the museum.  There was just so much.  I did take this one of a furry fish caught in one of the Great Lakes.

We stopped at Mi Casa Cafe for chili and beer.  The guitar play was great.  People would yell out artists and he would play them very well.  Every thing from Tracy Chapman to Bob Dylan.  He really rocked the house, or patio as it were.  It was fun watching the people walk by, bobing their heads to the music or dancing a bit.

We talked for a while to a couple that had sailed in 2 weeks ago from the Bahamas on their Catalina 42 named Fine Lion.   Their names.......Steve & Kim Snyder.  How cool is that.  No relation that we know of.  We traded a few stories 'cuz that is what boat people do.....a lot.

Tomorrows weather, hot, sunny, humid and a chance of Thunderstorms in the late afternoon.  The forecast for everyday through November.

Patti and Bill  :-)
