St. George Street in St. Augustine

St. George Street is the most active street in St. Augustine.  It is a pedestrian only fairway with lots of places to eat, shop and even some museums.  There are also some alleyways and side streets with some very old inns, homes and bed & breakfasts. The street itself is cement and tapers down in the center.  The oldest St. Augustine wooden school house is on one end near the City Gates.  It is over 200 years old and built with red cedar and cypress.  It is put together with wood pegs.  The classroom is on the bottom floor and the schoolmaster and his wife lived above.  We did not go inside as it was very small and for some reason tickets were expensive.  But it is an awesome structure.

We had lunch in the Mill Top Tavern.  It is one of the oldest taverns in St. Augustine. We entered through the back entrance from St. George Street.  The other side is across from the Casillo de Marcos  Over 130 years old it sits on the second floor of the Old Grist Mill.  This was the view outside our window.

The food was normal pub fare.  The menu was not real large, which i really like.  There was also entertainment.  Bill really liked the guitar playing.

Back on the street we headed toward the marina.  I could stay on this street for hours with my camera.  There is just so much to see and people to watch.  Maggie was a friendly patron.  She was showing off her new scarf to anyone who want to see.

This is a butterfly/dragon kite.  Eerie in a cute kinda way.

These are watershoes.  I could never wear them.

Again NOAA called for a 70% chance of rain.  Walking down the dock the clouds again looked as though the storm was almost near.

So ends another day in St. Augustine.

Patti and Bill  :-)
